In The Big City Live in 2012 By Shane O'Brien
This Blues Rock tune has a edgy moody side to it. This Live version was Created and Developed for early 2013 submissions in the Film Industry. Video General and The Jungle Studio Recorded/Video taped O'Brien at a Nov 2012 Live performance
Early Days of Shane, refers to 1995 thru 2005. These were the discovery years that I recognize as the days of which I learned to put written songs in album form

The Story Behind The Song
The Story Behind The Song is a new feature of the obriensedge.com web site. So far there are 3 installments of unique stories regarding songs: “It’s Safe To Be You”, Chapter 2 _ “That’s The Way” and Chapter 3 _ “The Bluesman“. Chapters are loaded with photos highlighting each story, how the song came about and developed to be what it is today on albums by Shane O’Brien and O’Briens Edge. Some Chapters you may find two recorded versions in the Chapters display of that particular song. 1 version of the song as it was originally being written/recorded and the 2nd rendition may be Shane playing it for that Chapter featured as it's highlight. There may be many folks who read and see this new feature and say to themselves “Hey I took that picture” or “I recorded that track with him” or “I was at that gig“. To those particular friends I say “Don't fret, I don't forget"

The Story Behind The Song:
Picture an individual during an evening episode of late night cruising and while stopped at a big city downtown street light looks over passed the passenger side window and recognizes an individual. The woman is looking for customers which is obvious to this driver. After a closer look, the driver notices that woman is an old familiar special friend from long ago, long before what she is today.
The song theme develops from personal thoughts within this gentlemen, instantly reviewing within his own insecurities, his own failures and underachieved goals. He rolls the window down offering friendly support to this old friend which is ignored by her, evidenced by the quick turn around she does as if she never saw the man, as she abruptly heads in the other direction not to be pursued.
Suddenly the driver hears within himself that little voice of guidance, filled with personal encouragement, and becomes another reason to continue onward with faith that his spirituality is true. That resolve, becomes a lifetime of motivation for him, to move on down the road to self satisfaction through a path of guidance from his God, leading him in new changes of life directions to come. It is not too late for anything if you really, really want it.

Another night in the city, yeah! Just another night in the city
Just another walk, another walk downtown. Ah! Just another walk around
And you’re wonderin’ now, you’re wonderin’ now
who your friends are in the city
And you’re wonderin’ now, wonderin’ now
who you’re friends are in the big city
See the cars and the buses runnin’ down the line
Hear the sound and the noises ringing in your brain
See the lights, flying high overhead babe
Just another night, enough to make your head spinnin’ ‘round
And you’re wonderin’ now, you’re wonderin’ now
about all those flying lights in the city
And don’t think too much about it babe
it’s just another strange night in the big city now
You got to school yourself, and let your hair down now
No one knows it’s you, oh! Let your hair down
School yourself, and let your dreams come out loud
Ah! Make sure your still around man every time it does
In the big city now, little momma
Little momma, little momma, little momma, little momma
And you’re wonderin’ now, what’s out there
As you run around, as you run around everywhere
You get in your car, but you’re going nowhere
As you hit every light and every stop, but you’re going nowhere
And you’re wonderin’ now, you’re wonderin’ now
And you’re wonderin’ now, you’re wonderin’ now
About all those strange things in the city
But don’t think too much now, about the big city
and its cold rough way of life
Rough way of life, rough way of life, yeah, yeah, yeah!
Let your hair down now, and get out and play
Let your hair down now, now you got to do it ‘bout every day
Let your hair down ah, ah! Let your dreams come out loud. Ah, man!
You got to have fun out there baby, and take advantage of it all
In the big city now little momma
Little momma, little momma, little momma, little momma, in the big city
Get in your car baby
you ain’t goin’ nowhere, you’re going somewhere
And you’re wonderin’ now
about all those funny things in the big city babe
And you’re wonderin’ now
about all those crazy worlds and ways in the city
See the cars now and the buses runnin’ down the lines
You hear every noise, you hear every sound, makin’ it rhyme
You’re lookin’ up way ahead now, and see the world passin’ by
Ah! Just another crazy night, enough to make your head spinnin’ ‘round
That’s all right now, the city is another world in your nighttime
You can twirl and dance babe, twirl and dance around every night
Let your hair down now, in the big city babe
Just get around now, get around now, as you would in the big city
