Early Days of Shane, refers to 1995 thru 2005. These were the discovery years that I recognize as the days of which I learned to put written songs in album form
Press Kits at http://www.reverbnation.com/shaneobrienandobriensedge A New Feature Web Site at www.obriensedge.com/blog/contact/ The Story Behind The Song The Story Behind The Song is a new feature of the obriensedge.com web site. So far there are 3 installments of unique stories regarding songs: “It’s Safe To Be You”, Chapter 2 _ “That’s The Way” and Chapter 3 _ “The Bluesman“. Chapters are loaded with photos highlighting each story, how the song came about and developed to be what it is today on albums by Shane O’Brien and O’Briens Edge. Some Chapters you may find two recorded versions in the Chapters display of that particular song. 1 version of the song as it was originally being written/recorded and the 2nd rendition may be Shane playing it for that Chapter featured as it's highlight. There may be many folks who read and see this new feature and say to themselves “Hey I took that picture” or “I recorded that track with him” or “I was at that gig“. To those particular friends I say “Don't fret, I don't forget"

Story behind the song
This track is a perfect example of the early days when all the recordings were conducted on a 33' Sailboat docked in the Los Angeles Harbor. It was the rock-ingest boat in the Harbor and still is to this very day 11 years later. Lyrical subject When a woman is tired of warning signals sent to her man and reached wits end, there's no turning back for the inevitable end. This is witnessed by a good friend to this man in subject and his warning of it's a long long time healing is what is in store for his friend. So when my friend and partner was watching me perform this recorded version he knew who the intended recipient of the message was meant to be...
Lyrics
A Long, Long Time ©2001 By Shane O’Brien “Yeah, this one’s for you Jimmy” I found out many years ago, when your baby let you go Don’t fight the feeling, it’ll only break your heart Don’t mean to say I told you But you knew it from the start Seams to always work out this way Just as sure as the sun comes up in the mornin’ I don’t want to cry no more, ‘cause I know it don’t do no good I’ll just suck it up and take it, ‘cause I know I’m a man And I thought I understood I never thought that it would end this way I was taken by surprise, when I heard my baby say She told me I had to go now, she said I had to get outta town And don’t bother asking me, she said she couldn’t explain I don’t think you meant to hurt me now I was just one of those things --------- She said. Now as I look back She said don’t hurt yourself by trippin’ and thinkin’ All women are the same. It’s that attitude where you’re slippin’ Recognize it or you’ll only have, only have yourself to blame It’s a long, long time. Just a long time baby What a long, long time. I love you anyway I’m still here for you darling, it’s a long time healin’ ya
